What is the best breed of chickens Backyard?

Ultimately, this is a personal decision. There is a list of varied and long list of chicken breeds to choose from. Many people choose a breed on looks alone. Knowing why you want to raise chickens, is probably the best starting point when trying to determine which breed is right for you.

The people raise chickens in the backyard, for different reasons. You might want to have a supply of fresh meat or eggs healthy for you and your family. Maybe you are looking for an environmentfriendly method to control weeds and insects. Maybe you are looking for a source of fertilizer for your garden. Maybe you have to always show the blue ribbon at the fair, valuable your chicken dreamed. Or perhaps just as chicken, and I will wake up to a rooster crowing to hear out the window.

Chickens provide all these advantages ? ready and hours of fun and joy. They have really nice personality (although someTaps can even say!). One of my favorite pieces of all days is to go forth into the yard with a run of 15 or more chickens following behind me.

Determine what your goal will also help determine how their own herd is set. If you are just raising chickens for eggs and / or meat to eat, you do not need a rooster. The only reason why you really need is a cock, especially if you want fertile eggs for hatching. Your hens lay eggs with or without tap. If youwant fertile eggs, or just the idea of ??a rooster in your flock, be sure to keep the cock: hen ratio in line. In general, one tap for every 10-12 hens is sufficient. You definitely do not want less than 8 hens per cock or your flock will suffer. The chickens are overwhelming, and the roosters to fight each other.

Why do you want chicken, influence the choice to breed. Basically, the chicken as meat birds can be classifiedLayers, messages or dual purpose. A few breeds that good meat producers and Red Cornish New Hampshire are considered. Some are good egg layers of Leghorn and Rhode Iceland Red Anacon. Brahma, Silky and Buttercup are the birds good show.

If you are planning to have a small herd farm, your best bet is probably to breed a dual purpose, although I started out with a meat breed sales. Some breeds are good dual purpose Dominique, Plymouth Rock, Wyandotte, andDorking.

Other things to consider are the climate and the temperature in your area. I would check with other poultry farmers in the specific part of the country, to determine which breeds are the most successful.

If you want still undecided about the type of chickens are happy, you might want to check with the rise of heritage or heirloom chickens. These are chickens that are considered rare or endangered. If you want to save a race, plans to raise a herdabout 50 chickens, including some taps to ensure that fertilized eggs can hatch or sell to others for breeding and protection of an endangered breed.

Whatever you decide about the breed, breeding of chickens in the garden, an exciting adventure!
