UBS says under investigation in Singapore over possible rate manipulation

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - UBS is under investigation in Singapore along with other banks for possible manipulation of Libor and other benchmark rates, the Swiss bank said on Tuesday.

In notes to its third quarter earnings report, UBS said that the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), as well as authorities in the United Kingdom, United States and Switzerland, are conducting investigations into whether it and other banks tried to manipulate rates.

More than a dozen banks are under investigation by regulators in the United States, Europe and Asia. However, this is the first time that UBS has disclosed that it is involved in the probe in Singapore.

"These investigations focus on whether there were improper attempts by UBS (among others), either acting on our own or together with others, to manipulate LIBOR and other benchmark rates at certain times," it said.

The MAS ordered members of the Association of Banks in Singapore in July to review how they set their benchmark interbank lending rates, focusing on the Singapore interbank offer rate (Sibor) and the Swap Offer Rate (SOR).

That probe was extended in late September when the regulator said banks must also look at how rates for non-deliverable foreign exchange forwards are set.

It ordered banks to report any irregularities they uncovered and to take disciplinary action against any staff involved.

An MAS spokesman referred to the statement from last month that said that the bank reviews were still at a preliminary stage.

UBS was the first bank globally to report suspected rate rigging, and has received conditional immunity from some authorities for cooperating in their probes. (Reporting by Rachel Armstrong and Kevin Lim; Editing by Michael Urquhart)

Commercial property remains sluggish in Q3, as India sees ...

- india realty news, india real estate news, real estate news india, realty news india, india property news, property news india, india news, property news, real estate news, India Property, Delhi NCR real estate, Mumbai Real Estate, Bangalore Real Estate, Pune Real Estate news,Track2Media, Track2Realty, ravi sinhaTrack2Realty: Real estate sentiment remains fragile, most notably in the occupier markets in Europe, as the global economy continues to face strong and persistent headwinds. The recession in Europe, coupled with only modest growth in the US and a slowdown in China has resulted in global economic prospects being no more certain than in the previous quarter. These are the findings of These are the findings of the latest RICS Global Commercial Property Survey.

Significantly, the latest survey results highlight the growing divergence between the struggling Eurozone economies ? which recorded some of the weakest readings in the survey ? and the real estate markets in parts of Asia and North America where respondents are more optimistic.

On the whole, occupier markets are broadly mixed, with a fairly even split between countries reporting falling and rising demand for space. The most positive trends found are in Russia, the UAE, the US and Canada, as well as Hong Kong and China. Meanwhile, France, Italy, Greece and Spain saw some of the biggest falls in occupier demand, alongside further increases in available space. Significantly, this is weighing down on rental expectations in these countries.

Commenting on the survey with respect to global commercial property, Simon Rubinsohn, RICS Chief Economist, said, ?The mixed picture evident in occupier markets is unsurprising, given the headwinds facing the global economy. Sustained weakness in most European economies, the slowdown in China and the approaching fiscal cliff in the US are all dampening growth prospects. But despite this, real estate markets in some regions, notably Asia, remain resilient. The North Americas data is also showing largely positive results. Significantly, renewed commitments from the Fed and ECB to provide more liquidity could be helping to drive investment markets around the world, as investors diversify portfolios to include a broader range of assets.?

In the Indian occupier market, demand stabilized this quarter after having fallen in the second quarter. In fact, India is seen to have improved seven places in the global rankings to 19 this quarter as compared to 26previously. Several Asian countries such as Thailand, Hong Kong and Japan rank above India with occupier demand exceeding supply in these countries. On the other hand, even countries such as China and Malaysia continue to rank above India in spite of oversupply existing in these markets as well.

Rental expectations also stabilized in the country with rentals actually turning positive this quarter. India is seen to have improved 9 places in the overall global rankings for rental expectations this quarter from 19th to 10th position. However, the level of inducements has also been on the rise at a faster pace this quarter.?

On the investment side, buyer enquiries have stabilised this quarter with India ranking 22nd as compared to 27th in the previous survey. This pick up appears to be mainly on account of increased demand for office property. Significantly, expectations of future transaction activity have also improved markedly with India ranking 12 in Q3 as compared to 18 in Q2. Additionally, a small rise in capital values is expected in the market given the slightly increased level of future purchasing activity.

Development starts were little changed from the last quarter with India falling one place in global rankings to 19. Also, further distressed property sales are expected in the final three months of the year, as investor appetite appears to remain flat. Demand for distressed assets rose at a faster pace in Q3 as compared to Q2 with India ranking 17 as compared to 12 in Q2.

Vamshi Nakirekanti MRICS, Head ? Valuations & Advisory, CB Richard Ellis South Asia said, ?Similar to the subdued sentiment in the last 2 quarters in India, the mood remains cautious with most market players adopting a wait and watch approach. Developers are predominantly focusing on the residential segment which is still witnessing activity in some of the key markets such as NCR, Pune and Bangalore. On the other hand, equity funds/ investors are focusing on structured deals as opposed to plain vanilla equity transactions.?

Amit Goel MRICS, Executive Director -Asset Management SI Viridian India Management said, ?Commercial Property prices have seemed to have hit a plateau. Traction is down and with going economic conditions is likely to stay this way for quite some time.?

Aman Kapoor MRICS, CEO ? Commercial Assets, Emaar MGF said, ?Investor driven demand in commercial property has declined over the past quarter and is likely to remain soft. The main demand driver is self user and this segment is fuelling current increase in demand for purchase of commercial properties. The lease absorption remains low and many companies continue to defer expansion plans.?

HBT: Rockies eye Giambi, Weiss, Matt Williams

This isn?t the Red Sox 2011 search for a Terry Francona replacement ? that was quite the drawn-out saga ? but the Rockies are taking their time finding a replacement for Jim Tracy. ?They?ve interviewed six guys, but Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post says the field is not likely to grow any more.

The six: Jason Giambi, Walt Weiss, Jerry Manuel, Pete Mackanin, Matt Williams and current??bench coach Tom Runnells.

Kind of an interesting slate. Giambi and Weiss have no managing or big league coaching experience. Manuel has been out of the game for a couple of years and no one, when he was fired after the 2010 season, thought he?d be back managing, did they? Mackanin was a candidate for the Boston last year but his manager-in-waiting status seemed to take a hit when the Phillies opted not to renew his contract. Given that Tracy was canned, and it was more a team direction thing than it was because he was some singularly flaming idiot or anything, one wonders why his bench coach would be a candidate.

Of course, what goes in Denver has never been the clearest thing in the world. In some ways they?ve always given off an Eastern Bloc vibe. Things happen there and we have to spend some time afterward trying to decide how that happened and what it all means.

Stranded by Sandy, air travelers eager to change status

1 day

Stuck. Stranded. In limbo. Whatever you call it, weary fliers grounded by Hurricane Sandy were eager to change their status on Tuesday as airlines and airports began assessing damage from the powerful?storm.

On Tuesday, all New York City-area airports were closed, including John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and Teterboro. JFK International will be reopened Wednesday, but LaGuardia will stay closed "due to extensive damage," said New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo during a news conference.

Carriers have canceled?18,000 flights since Sunday, and that number is still expected to grow, according to FlightAware.com.

With no way of getting out of or into the Big Apple and other parts of the East Coast by air, there?s a huge backlog of fliers around the country and the world with nowhere to go.

Some travelers spent the night on cots set up at airports including Newark Liberty, Boston Logan International and Chicago O?Hare International. Others snapped up hotel rooms -- hotel bookings are up 15 percent in New York City and 68 percent in Washington compared to last week, according to data provided by Orbitz.

The question now: When will airline schedules get back to normal?

"A lot of it depends on what kind of damage they assess at the New York metro airports and when those reopen," said Jeanenne Tornatore, senior editor at Orbitz.

"Should flights, for example, start going back out tomorrow on a limited basis, we don't anticipate flight schedules really getting back to normal until late this weekend, early next week," she said.

Related:?Sandy leaves NYC subway system, infrastructure, licking its wounds

There's already a big backlog of travelers who canceled their flights before the storm so there won't be a lot of seats to rebook displaced fliers on, Tornatore noted.

For stranded?travelers, there's nothing to do but wait.?

Claire Conroy, who lives south of Boston, is stuck on the West Coast until Thursday.?Conroy?flew out to San Diego, Calif., with her mother and sister last week to celebrate her niece?s first birthday. When they realized over the weekend that they might have trouble returning Monday as planned, they spent 35 minutes on hold with JetBlue to rebook for a flight on Sunday afternoon. But it was too late.

?When we got to the counter, the flight was still listed as on time but was in fact canceled. The soonest flight we could get on was Thursday afternoon. Even then, only two of us are on that flight -- my sister will be (flying) Friday. That?s how fast the seats were filling,? Conroy said.

Slideshow:?Hurricane Sandy's aftermath

Nicole Abramowski -- who grew up on Long Island and now lives in Berlin, Germany -- was flying home to New York for the first time in over a year to visit friends and family when she got stuck. She made it as far as London, where she was supposed to catch an American Airlines flight to JFK International on Sunday but it was canceled right before the gate opened.

The carrier booked Abramowski on a Thursday flight and put her up in a hotel, but later found out only two nights of her stay are covered and she has to pay for?the rest of her accommodations herself.

?Hotel rooms here are 150-200 pounds a night, which is a whole month?s rent for me in Berlin on my salary and completely unaffordable,? Abramowski said, pointing out that she is stuck in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

?After an hour on the phone and taking a bus back to the airport to speak with them in person, they tell me it's not their responsibility, ?We didn't even have to book you into a hotel for those two nights.??

Her whole hotel is filled with people trying to get to New York, Abramowski said.

?I feel bad for everyone having to deal with this. We have bad timing,? she added.

American Airlines has suspended operations until Wednesday at nine airports in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, including Ronald Reagan Washington National, Dulles International, Baltimore/Washington International, Norfolk International, Philadelphia International, Newark Liberty International, John F. Kennedy International, LaGuardia and Bradley International.

US Airways has similar closures, plus cancellations at airports in Maine, Vermont, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Delta Air Lines is resuming flying at Boston Logan and the major Washington-area airports on Tuesday, but its operations continue to be shut down in New York.?

United plans to resume inbound flights in the Big Apple on Wednesday. The airline warned that it is experiencing extremely high call volume due to the storm.

JetBlue posted a photo of its planes waiting out Sandy in Puerto Rico and asked passengers for patience.

?We will be ready to start operations as soon as Wednesday morning if the airports and public transportation are open, but we expect it will take much longer to get back to business as usual,? the airline said on its blog.

Google Nexus 10 hands-on (video)

Nexus 10 handson

The Samsung-made Nexus 10 just landed in our hands, and we had a little time to take it for a spin. It's no secret that this particular tablet is ready for some serious hand-to-hand combat against the iPad, possessing a rather stunning set of components and solid build quality. First, let's go over the laundry list of specs. The Nexus 10 has a dual-core 1.7GHz dual-core Exynos 5250 under the hood -- these are Cortex-A15 processors -- as well as a Mali T604 GPU and 2GB RAM. There's little doubt in our minds that this is more than sufficient to please power users, especially now that we've had some time to see how incredibly speedy everything is. We were even more impressed than we had anticipated, as the tablet features some of the most detailed and smoothest graphics we've seen.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that the Nexus 10 offers a 2,560 x 1,600 display, which equates to just over 300ppi. For comparison, the new iPad packs a 2,048 x 1,536 panel for a pixel density of 264. Numbers are just numbers, of course, but the "True RGB Real Stripe PLS" screen is definitely one of the nicest we've gazed upon. Pixelation was nearly non-existent, viewing angles were great and colors were amazingly vibrant. It's also supported with Gorilla Glass 2.

There's plenty to say and see, so check out our gallery below and head past the break for a video and more impressions.

US, Japan troops to hold drill amid China tensions

Japan and the United States will hold a biennial joint military exercise in Japan in November in a move likely to further anger China amid heightened tensions between the two Asian giants over disputed islets in the East China Sea.

About 37,400 military personnel from Japan will join some 10,000 U.S. troops in the November 5-16 drill, an official at Japan's Self-Defense Forces said.

China's Defence Ministry spokesman Yang Yujun said last week China was "paying close attention to the relevant moves by the Japanese", when asked about a joint military exercise between the United States and Japan.

Yang also accused Japan of "manufacturing tensions in the region".

In recent weeks, both Japan and China have sent patrol ships to waters near the uninhabited islands, called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, raising concerns that an unintended collision could develop into a larger clash.

Much at stake for US as tensions rise in troubled China Seas

Officials from Japan and China held talks earlier this month in Shanghai to discuss the dispute.

Chinese ships have been frequenting waters near the islands, also claimed by Taiwan, since Japan's government nationalized them last month, a decision that sparked violent demonstrations across China.

China vs. Japan, but the loser could be the global economy

Japanese air force officials, meanwhile, say there has also been a spike recently in Chinese air operations resulting in emergency "scrambles" by Japanese fighter jets to keep them from entering Japan's airspace.

According to statistics released by the Defense Ministry, fighters were dispatched 54 times between July and September in response to possible incursions of Japanese airspace by Chinese warplanes. That was up sharply from the three previous months, before the tensions heightened, when there were 15 such scrambles.

A ministry official said virtually all of the incidents were in airspace over the East China Sea.

Both countries have been flexing their military muscles to bolster their claims to the islands, which are strategically located and surrounded by rich fishing grounds, along with potentially lucrative reserves of undersea natural resources.

Every single junk food meal damages your arteries, new study reveals

ScienceDaily (Oct. 30, 2012) ? A single junk food meal -- composed mainly of saturated fat -- is detrimental to the health of the arteries, while no damage occurs after consuming a Mediterranean meal rich in good fats such as mono-and polyunsaturated fatty acids, according to researchers at the University of Montreal-affiliated ?PIC Center of the Montreal Heart Institute. The Mediterranean meal may even have a positive effect on the arteries.

The findings are being presented at the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress, which runs in Toronto until Wednesday, by the head of the study, Dr. Anil Nigam, Director of Research at the Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation Centre (?PIC) and associate professor at the university's Faculty of Medicine.

Bad fat vs. good fat

Dr. Nigam undertook the study to compare the effects of junk food and typical Mediterranean meal on the vascular endothelium: the inner lining of the blood vessels. By measuring endothelial function, it is possible to determine how easily the arteries will dilate after a temporary, five-minute occlusion, following the consumption of the two types of meals. This is a very interesting analysis for researchers to perform as endothelial function is closely linked to the long-term risk of developing coronary artery disease.

The study also revealed that participants with higher blood triglyceride levels seemed to benefit more from the healthy meals. Their arteries responded better to the Mediterranean meal compared to people with low triglyceride levels. "We believe that a Mediterranean-type diet may be particularly beneficial for individuals with high triglyceride levels, such as patients with metabolic syndrome, precisely because it could help keep arteries healthy," Dr. Nigam said.

Mediterranean meal vs. junk food meal

The results were established in 28 non-smoking men, who ate the Mediterranean-type meal first and then the junk food-type meal one week later. Before beginning, the men underwent an ultrasound of the antecubital artery at the elbow crease after fasting for 12-hours to assess their baseline endothelial function. The researchers then tested the effects of each meal. The first was composed of salmon, almonds, and vegetables cooked in olive oil, of which 51% of total calories came from fat (mostly monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fats.) The second meal consisted of a sandwich made of a sausage, an egg, and a slice of cheese, and three hash browns, for a total of 58% of total calories from fat: extremely rich in saturated fatty acids and containing no omega-3s. At two hours and four hours after each meal, participants underwent further ultrasounds to assess how the food had impacted their endothelial function.

Dr. Nigam and his team found that after eating the junk food meal, the arteries of the study participants dilated 24% less than they did when in the fasting state. In contrast, the arteries were found to dilate normally and maintain good blood flow after the Mediterranean-type meal.

"These results will positively alter how we eat on a daily basis. Poor endothelial function is one of the most significant precursors of atherosclerosis. It is now something to think about at every meal," Dr. Nigam said.

20 Super-Effective Stability Ball Exercises | Greatist

20 Super-Effective Stability Ball Exercises

Illustrations by Shannon Orcutt

What?s the deal with those big bouncy balls taking up space around the gym? Stability balls (aka exercise balls, balance balls, Swiss balls or fitness balls) are more than just fun to sit and bounce on; they?re a great way to improve strength, cardio endurance, and balance. By tackling basic moves (like push-ups, squats, and planks) on an unstable surface, muscles get more bang for the buck (and who doesn?t want to be ready for the gun show in far less time?)[]. Stability balls are also great for getting back into shape after an injury because they can reduce muscle and spinal strain during certain movements[].

To get the most from a bouncy fitness routine, make sure to choose the correct size stability ball?(note: some moves below use a larger or smaller than normal ball. For most exercises, though, it?s best to have correctly sized equipment). Most balls come in three diameters based on the user?s height: 55 cm for those between 4?11? and 5?4?, 65 cm for people between 5?4? and 5?7?, and 75 cm for tall drinks of water between 5?11? and 6?7?. A good rule of thumb for finding the right fit: Sit on the ball and make sure the hips and knees are at right angles with the floor. Reps and sets will depend on fitness levels, but for most of these exercises we recommend doing 3-5 sets of 10-20 reps. After a few workouts, try bumping up the reps to really test that strength. Ready to go? These moves take the stability ball way beyond the basic crunch.

Lower Body

Stability Ball Squat and Reach1.?Squat and Reach: Ready to bust a move? Get the blood flowing with a slow n? steady squat that works arms and abs as well as legs. Hold the ball with straight arms, so it?s about level with the face. Squat down, bringing the ball all the way to the left side, just above the left foot. Hang tight in this position for three slow breaths, and then untwist the torso and return to standing before repeating on the other side. For the best results, keep that butt down in the squats and hold arms straight out in front of the torso. Try 10-15 reps of this twisty move to get the arms, core, and legs in tip-top shape. ?

2.?Wall Squat: Put those quads to work with this power move. Stand about three feet from a wall with feet shoulder-width apart and the back to the wall. Place the ball between the lower back and the wall and squat down slowly until the legs form 90-degree angles at the knees. Use the ball to support the back as it rolls from the lower back to the shoulder blades. Slowly stand up again, and repeat for 10-15 reps.

3.?Standing Ball Squeeze: If you embarrass easily, try this move at home to work the hips, lower back, and inner thighs. Stand upright and place the ball between the legs, so the center is about even with the knees (it should not be touching the floor). Squat down until knees form 90-degree angles, squeezing the ball to stay balanced. Hold the position as long as possible, working up to 30-45 seconds per set. Note: For this move, consider using a ball that?s not the perfect fit. A larger ball makes this move more difficult, while a smaller ball is a little easier on the thighs. Beginners can also use a chair or wall for help with balance.

4.?Overhead Ball Squat: Ready to use the arms and the legs? For this one, complete a traditional squat, while holding the stability ball with the arms extended overhead. Adding weight (nope, not quite light as air) plus keeping the torso in an upright position engages the shoulders and deltoid muscles. Go for 10-15 reps of this bad boy.

5.?Hamstring Curl: Lie on the floor with arms extended perpendicular to the torso and lower calves and heels resting on the ball. Engaging the glutes and abs, lift the hips up from the floor. Use the outstretched arms for stability, as this is definitely a wobbly position! Exhale and slowly bring the knees in towards the hips, so the feet are resting flat on top of the ball. Pause for a few seconds in this position and then inhale, straightening legs out again. Keep those hips up the whole time to get maximum gluteus maximus benefits. Aim for 10-12 reps of this total-body move.

6.?Ball Lunge: Ready for the balance big leagues? While standing, place the ball behind the body and put one foot top-down on the top of the ball. Step the other foot out about six inches, and bend both knees in a deep lunge. Make sure the knee of the front foot does not go over the toes. (For the stability-challenged, a chair or railing can provide extra support.) This advanced move will test stability as well as strength, so shoot for 8-10 reps (or as many as you can do with proper form) on each side.

7.?Reverse Extension: Last but certainly not least, time to work that booty! Start with your chest on the ball, with fingertips and toes resting on the floor. Roll forward so hands are under shoulders and hips are directly touching the ball. With the feet together and the core engaged, lift the legs straight from the floor until they are in line with the torso. Hold for a beat and then repeat. Try for 12-15 reps before heading back to solid ground.

Upper Body

Stability Ball Plank8.?Standing Plank: Pump up the intensity of a standard plank with this move. Using a wobbly stability ball gives the shoulders and arms an extra-tough workout. With one leg extended behind, rest the elbows and forearms on the ball (for a really tough challenge, try this with straight arms). Step the other leg back so the feet are together. Hold the position as long as possible, working up to 30 seconds per set.

9.?Roll Out: This multitasking move works the arms and and core (score!). Kneel behind the ball, with palms down on top. Slowly use the hands to push the ball forward until the triceps are resting on top of the ball and the legs are almost all the way extended with the knees on the ground. Remember: A tight core will keep the body moving straight ahead. Feeling pressure on the knees? Place a towel or yoga mat under them for a little extra TLC. Concentrate on maintaining the proper form for 10 reps straight.

10.?Balance Push-Up: These ain?t your mama?s push-ups! Take this basic bodyweight move to the next level with a stability ball. Lie facedown on the ball with hands and feet touching the ground and the stomach on the top of the ball. Walk the hands out until the shins are resting on the ball and the torso is in a flat push-up position. Lower the torso towards the ground until the upper arms are parallel to the ground. Return to the ?up? push-up position and continue for 8-10 reps (or more, if you can hang).

11.?Tricep Dips: Get stronger tris with this adapted dip exercise. Sit on the ball with legs forming 90-degree angles and feet hip-width apart. Next, place the hands on either side of the hips on the ball and slowly scoot the hips forward so they?re a few inches in front of the ball. At this point, the heels are on the ground and the hands are on the ball supporting the rest of the body. Use the triceps to lower the arms down a few inches, and then return to the starting position. Keep the back straight and abs engaged for 10-15 reps.

12.?Back Extension: You can do it, put your back into it! Start with the stomach and hips on the ball, legs extended straight behind (toes resting on the ground). Hold onto the ball with the hands for balance. If this position is difficult to maintain due to slippery shoes, try placing the feet against a wall. Raise the chest high (like a yoga ?cobra?), bringing the hands to the back of the head. Hold for a beat or two, and return to a relaxed position. Repeat for 12-15 reps.

13.?Pike: Been there, done that? This super-advanced move will have even fitness buffs sweating. Start in the push-up position described above (see no. 10), but with the toes instead of shins resting on top of the ball. With straight legs, use the abdominals to pull the toes towards the chest. Done properly, the torso will be in a push-up position with the back straight (no arching or sagging) and legs angling down towards the ball. This move ain?t for the faint of heart, so give it a shot for 5-8 reps.

Core

Stability Ball V-Sit14.?V-Sit with Ball: V for victory (in the killer abs department). Lie face up on the ground with ankles resting on the top of the stability ball. With arms pointing towards the feet, roll the torso up so the body forms a V with the hips on the ground. Hold for five counts (long enough for a serious case of the ab-shakes) and slowly roll back down to the ground. Repeat for 6-10 reps.

15.?Ball Jog: Get your heart pumping and release that inner child all at once! For this blood-pumping move, sit tall on the ball with abs engaged and feet firmly on the floor. Lift the knees up and down to bounce as high as possible on the ball. Try bouncing for 2-5 minutes to keep the heart rate up mid-workout (or try it as a fun warm-up!) nice and warmed up.

16.?Knee Tucks: Arms and shoulders not quite ready for the pike? This adaptation is easier on the upper body but still brings a serious abdominal workout. Start in push-up position with toes resting on the ball and straight arms, with hands on the ground under the shoulders. Bring the knees towards the chest until the knees are directly under the hips. Extend knees back to push-up position and repeat for 10-15 kick-butt reps.

17.?Hand Off: Work those abs with this tough move! Lie face up on the ground with arms and legs extended. Grab the ball overhead with both hands. In one smooth motion, lift the arms and legs in the air, transferring the ball from the hands to the feet (in between the ankles to be exact). At this point, only the hips and butt should be touching the ground. Lower arms and legs with the ball between them to the ground. Stay strong for 6-10 reps with correct form.

18.?Hanging Knee Raise: Use this move to crunch those hard-to-find lower abs. Place the ball in front of a weight bench or another sturdy piece of furniture. Lie back on the ball, with the shoulders and back touching the surface. Grab the weight bench with the hands and keep the legs pressed tightly together (for a more advanced move, try a free weight). Flex the abs and bring the knees towards the chest, using the arms for stability. 10-15 reps will bring those abs out from hiding.

19.?Ski Step: Wondering where the obliques come in? Try this alpine-influenced move to work the sides of the abs. Sit tall on the stability ball with feet together. In one smooth motion, swing the feet to the right and the arms to the left. Don?t be afraid to get into this move ? the higher the enthusiasm the better the workout! Bring arms and legs back to center and repeat for 12-15 reps, alternating sides.

20.?Side Squat: Finish up an ab-tastic routine with a bit of a stretch. Stand with legs shoulder width apart, grasping the ball overhead with both hands. Keeping theback straight and the abs engaged, bend down bring the ball to the outside of the left foot. Lift the ball again and repeat on the right side. Stay strong (and limber!) for 10-15 reps.

Want your very own stability ball? Here are some great exercise balls to do that (potentially embarrassing) squeeze squat at home!

  • Firm: This ridged ball comes with a workout DVD for even more stability ball exercise ideas; $20.
  • GoFit: A nubbly blue surface will keep this basic ball from getting slippery during a sweaty workout; $20.
  • SPRI Stediball: This weighted ball comes with plastic pellets that can be poured into the ball for a more challenging workout. Prying the plug off was tricky, but after we inflated it the ball was much thicker and sturdier than a regular stability ball; $60.
  • TKO Fitness Ball: Made of special Anti-Burst material, so feel free to use this wherever. We have these bad boys in our office and sometimes use them as chairs; $20.
  • Eco Total Body Balance Ball Kit: This ball had the perfect amount of ?give,? plus grippy bumps around the sides to prevent slipping; $25.

Using The Stock Market Wisely: Tips And Advice For New Investors ...

Using The Stock Market Wisely: Tips And Advice For New Investors

Do you want to earn better returns than a bank CD? If you answered yes, stocks are for you! However, before blowing your entire life?s saving on tons of stock purchases, there is crucial information you need to learn about before investing in the stock market. You will find the pertinent information in this article.

You?re becoming a part-owner when you purchase stocks. Many people buy stocks based on rumors, but you shouldn?t forget that when you purchase a stock, you a purchasing a percentage of the company. Research companies whose stock you wish to purchase, so you know exactly what you?re buying.

If you achieve success with a particular business, there?s a good chance it will happen again. This also applies for a negative surprise. So, you need to remember the potential for both developments to unfold when you make investment decisions. Be sure that you are prepared to handle a loss before you make each investment decision.

TIP! You should think about buying some good investment software. Investment software can help you organize your stocks and keep track of them to better understand how the prices are looking.

Invest a maximum of 10% of your capital into any single company. If your stock rapidly declines later, this can help decrease your exposed risk.

Make sure you diversify your investments sufficiently. The money you invest, like the proverbial eggs, should not all go into the same basket. If you put all of your money into one stock, and then that stock crashes, you will be financially ruined.

Define your goals before you buy stock. It may be that you want to build and strengthen your portfolio, or you may be seeking out a low risk way to obtain income. Whatever your goals, being very clear about them can help you choose a good strategy that will help you find success.

TIP! Consider short selling. This strategy involves borrowing shares of stock from your broker.

Stock Market

Monitor the stock market before you actually enter it. Before plunking down real money, you can avoid some of the common beginner mistakes by watching the market for a while. Prior to investing, try to follow the stock market for at least a couple of years. If you are patient and observant, you?ll understand the market better and will be more likely to make money.

Try to maintain a realistic perspective when you invest in the stock market. While there are years you can have double-digit returns, those returns are the exception rather than the rule. Keeping realistic exceptions about your investments will make it easier for you to reach your financial goals.

TIP! You should invest based on the company?s returns on its stock rather than on your opinion of the company?s management. Company management often changes faster than the economic nature of the company.

Before putting your hard-earned money into the stock market, you should practice. This doesn?t even require any software. Just select a piece of stock, and jot down what the current price is and why you are choosing it. Finally, you should track the stock for a pre-determined amount of time, so you can see how your theory compares to it?s actual performance. This way, you can see how your judgement plays out without causing yourself any loss of money.

Choosing stocks with above-average growth rates is a great strategy, but don?t aim too high. The valuations of this class of stocks are more in line than some stocks classed as high-growth. Stocks that are high growth are usually high priced and in great demand, meaning they wont meet your expectations.

Peter Lynch

TIP! Do your homework and research a brokerage firm before trusting them with your money. There are many firms out there who promise to help you gain a lot of money in the stock market, yet they are not properly skilled or educated.

Invest in companies that you are familiar with. Some of the market?s most successful investors, such as Peter Lynch and Warren Buffet, have directly attributed their success to constraining themselves to investing in industries they were familiar with. Peter Lynch said the reason that he did not invest in electronics was because he did not understand them. Instead he invested in apparel and consumer staples. The lesson here is to deal mainly with those things which you can understand.

Keep in mind that there is a lot more to a stock than an abstract asset that you can buy and sell. A stock represents your ownership of a piece of the company that issued it. You become vested in the earnings and assets that belong to the company. In some cases, you can even vote in major elections regarding corporate leadership.

Don?t just look at the price of a stock. Look at its overall value. Is this purchase going to be a long-term investment? If the price of a stock seems to be too low, make an effort to find out why. Do not go into buy a stock at a decreased value if you are not certain that you will increase your portfolio in the long run.

TIP! It?s critical that you choose industries that you understand. Familiarity in an industry means that you will know what to look for when you invest.

Now that you are better informed, is stock market investing still alluring? If you are, then get for what the stock market holds. Apply the tips that you?ve just learned, and soon you?ll be competently buying and selling stock without damaging the value of your savings account.

(AP) ? Asante Samuel just wanted to give his former coach a little love.

Andy Reid turned him away.

Too bad for Reid his Eagles couldn't do the same to Atlanta's offense.

Matt Ryan threw touchdown passes on Atlanta's first three possessions against the Eagles and new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, and the Falcons remained the NFL's only unbeaten team with a convincing 30-17 win over Philadelphia on Sunday.

Samuel, who played four seasons with the Eagles, had every reason to puff his chest after the Falcons raced to a 7-0 start for the first time in the franchise's 47-year history.

Reid had no desire to wish him well, the outspoken Samuel said. In the postgame locker room, Samuel mimicked Reid waddling away from him during the handshake.

"I was like dang, Big Red, what I did?" Samuel said. "So I just pat him on the belly a little bit. That big belly."

Reid has a pretty big target after the latest Eagles' debacle left him pondering his next big move.

The Eagles lost for the first time since Bowles replaced embattled Juan Castillo as defensive coordinator, a sign that personnel, as much as play-calling, is at fault.

"You don't go from the outhouse to the penthouse in one week," Bowles said. "Right now, we're in the damn outhouse."

In a desperate purge, Reid dumped his loyal coordinator.

His next move, perhaps, could be changing his quarterback. Reid softened his usual staunch defense of Michael Vick and said every Eagle after this "embarrassing performance" was being evaluated. Vick was a pedestrian 21 of 35 for 191 yards and a touchdown, and failed to beat his former team in his second start against the Falcons since returning to the NFL in 2009.

"Whatever decision Coach makes, I support it," Vick said. "The thing I know is, I'm giving it everything I've got out there when I step on the field. Deep down, as long as I know I'm doing that, giving it everything, that's all I can ask out of myself."

Philadelphia's struggles are no longer Samuel's concern.

"We're 7-0 over here baby," Samuel said. "If I was over there now, they have to go to work."

The Eagles (3-4) lost after a bye for the first time in 14 games under coach Andy Reid since 1999.

"That was an embarrassing performance," Reid said. "I'm stating the obvious. We need to get better. I need to do a better job. This is fixable. We have the talent."

Ryan finished 22 of 29 for 262 yards and three TDs for his first win against his hometown team in three tries.

The Falcons scored on their first six possessions before punting for the first time with 5:35 left.

"When you do that, it's going to be a good day," Ryan said.

This was a validation win for Atlanta. The Falcons entered with no victories over a team with a winning record and their opponents were a combined 13-24 going into this weekend. Perhaps that's why they were a surprising 3-point underdog despite Philadelphia's recent struggles.

"We like to have a lot of fun," Falcons coach Mike Smith said. "We have a very mature group. We have a bunch of guys who are mentors. We're good at focusing on the task at hand. We're on point when we kick off and guys have done a good job focusing all season."

Reid's Eagles have lost three in a row after starting 3-1.

The faint "Fire Andy!" chants from the upper deck show exactly who Eagles fans believe deserves the brunt of the blame for the biggest debacle in a season slipping away. Those fans who gutted out the elements weren't alone as (hashtag)Fire Andy was trending on Twitter late in the fourth quarter.

The anti-Reid fans may be seeing him in his final months with the team. Owner Jeffrey Lurie already stated before the season that another 8-8 finish would be "unacceptable."

The Falcons methodically drove 80 yards on 16 plays on the opening possession, converting five third downs. A holding call on defensive end Jason Babin kept the drive going after Ryan threw an incomplete pass on third-and-10. Ryan then threw a 15-yard TD pass to Drew Davis for a 7-0 lead.

Ryan tossed a 3-yard TD pass to Jason Snelling to make it 14-0. Penalties on Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Mychal Kendricks on separate third downs kept Atlanta's drive going.

After going three-and-out on the first series, the Eagles put it together on the next drive by mixing in seven runs among their 13 plays. LeSean McCoy scored from the 2 to cut it to 14-7.

But the Falcons answered quickly. Ryan connected with Julio Jones over Nnamdi Asomugha for the 63-yard score to put Atlanta up 21-7.

Atlanta converted their first nine third-down tries, including three by penalty. The Eagles finally held in the final minute of the second quarter and Matt Bryant's 43-yard field goal gave the Falcons a 24-7 halftime lead. Bryant kicked field goals of 29 and 30 on the next two drives.

The Eagles made it 30-17 on Vick's 7-yard TD pass to McCoy in the fourth quarter.

NOTES: The Falcons won in Philadelphia for the first time since Oct. 30, 1988. They were 0-6 with two playoff losses. ... The Eagles got their first sack in four games since Week 3. ... Eagles rookie Dennis Kelly took his first NFL snap, starting for the injured Danny Watkins (ankle) at RG. ... Falcons coach Mike Smith moved past Dan Reeves into first place on the club's all-time list with 50 wins.

TrendSpottr Joins With Salesforce to Offer ... - Small Business Trends

TrendSpottr, a predictive analytics service that curates and identifies relevant trends, announced a partnership with Salesforce this week, meaning that any businesses using Salesforce will now have access to the analytics tools of TrendSpottr.

Trendspottr?s product can help businesses find content relevant to their company or business interests within the massive amounts of data available online. It uses this data to identify and even predict trends within different industries and topics.

Users can enter a search term, hashtag, or general topic of interest, and then Trendspottr?s algorithm looks for the most relevant information by taking into account factors like how recent the topic has been discussed, the frequency of those discussions, velocity, and amplification.

Data can also be broken down into conversations from a particular city or geographical area, so local businesses or companies looking to break into a particular market can get information more tailored to their business interests. Users can also learn about the top influencers within a particular topic and the context behind each trend.

The partnership with Salesforce not only means that a large amount of businesses will now have access to the tool, but also that TrendSpottr may be looking to transition into a more specialized analytics provider, rather than one that deals mainly with data from public social media sources.

TrendSpottr will continue to offer its product separately from its Salesforce offering, and the two products will be sold individually. Prices are based on how much data is processed through the service.

The Toronto-based startup was launched at the spring 2011 DEMO conference. The company started off working with the open social APIs from sites like Facebook and Twitter, and then expanded to more real-time streams of online data.

Aside from the partnership with TrendSpottr, Salesforce has also added a number of other social analytics vendors to its Marketing Cloud.
