?16 and Pregnant? introduced the television audience to Cleoandra and Mario, the new parents of Kylee Sue who was born on November 29 at 6 pounds, 12 ounces. It was a surprise this young mom got pregnant since her older sister, Zarica, got pregnant at seventeen, and left the majority of the responsibility to raise daughter, Zyra, to Cleoandra. As much as this young lady states the family is close, it looks more like they are not so close with a large amount of dysfunction going on; what kind of monitoring do these children really have if the older sister is pregnant at seventeen and now this teen is pregnant at about the same age?
Cleoandra seems to have a rational head on her shoulders as she is a honor roll student who was engaged in extra-curricular activities such as being on the school dance team which had gone to Nationals last year but was required to resign from the team due to the pregnancy. Cleoandra and mother, Dixie, talk about the fact there had been discussion about an abortion but the plan was never followed through, leaving Cleoandra facing becoming a teen mother.
Mario is from a family which has seen divorce as well with his mother living around the corner from his father with whom he lives. They live across the street from Cleoandra which would make one believe there will be lots of opportunity for the two new parents to tend to the child; however, this is simply not the case as Mario refuses to help unless Cleoandra stays at his house. When she finally breaks down and spends the night, Mario refuses to get up with the baby, sending Cleoandra back home for help.
Prior to the baby being born, Cleoandra has to deal with Mario?s mother who refuses to be called grandma acting like she is going to control the entire situation which sets Cleoandra off. She later comes to Cleoandra?s defense when facing Marion to step up as a father and start spending time at Cleoandra?s house at night to help with the baby is he expects this relationship to work out.
Although this couple seems far more mature than the others seen thus far this season, they are still a long way from working things out! It is really sad to know that Cleoandra is struggling to graduate from high school while the baby is bounced around to a different family member every day of the week in order for that to happen. It seems almost like a worse situation than the one faced by Zyra who was constantly left with Cleoandra who she feels is her mother more than Zarica who is the mother! It will be interesting to see how this all plays out in the future.
