Luxury Chalet Rentals with Burger Davis SIR

Although the French Riviera is most often regarded as a summer playground, replete with pristine beaches and the incomparable sunlight of the C?te d?Azur, the proximity of the region to the French Alps also makes it an excellent base for winter ski trips. From Cannes, Nice, or Antibes, you can easily avail yourself of the best of both worlds, enjoying the luxury of the French Riviera in the slower off-season with easy access to ski resorts including:

?

Auron

?

The historic Auron ski resort is an easy 90km trip from Nice into the French Alps. Located above the Tin?e Valley, the resort sits at an elevation of 1160m to 2450m. There are 8 black runs, 17 red, 15 blue, and 2 green accessed by a total of 24 ski lifts. With a north-northwest aspect, Auron enjoys good snow cover starting in early December and running through mid-May, which allows for fine off-piste skiing in the early months of the season. There are 11 restaurants throughout the ski area serving excellent French food and Provencale specialities. Additionally, the resort offers plentiful non-ski activities ranging from nightlife to family-centred entertainment offerings.

?

Isola 2000

?

The Isola 2000 ski resort in the French Alps is situated next to the Mercantour National Park just 90km from Nice. At 2000m, Isola is one of the highest ski areas in France. It includes 120km of piste made up of 4 black runs, 11 red, 21 blue, and 7 green accessed by 2 gondola lifts, 9 chair lifts, 10 button lifts, and one fernicular. Terrain parks include the snow park, boardercross, and half-pipe. Night life is limited, but it is a good venue for families with children. (The area?s microclimate guarantees fairly reliable snow cover, but there are 210 snow cannon on hand if the need arises.)

?

Valberg

?

At altitudes ranging from 1500m to 2011m, Valberg offers beautiful sunshine, and a Mediterranean atmosphere in both the village and its restaurants. Just an 80 minute drive from Nice, skiers will find 6 black runs, 22 red, 13 blue, and 11 green accessed by 22 ski lifts. (Total of 91km of downhill pistes.) A particularly good spot for intermediate and beginning skiers, Valberg is also popular for snowboarding. There is reliable snow above 2000m and cover on 45km of the runs can be augmented with 350 snow cannon.

?

Gr?oli?res

?

A smaller, older resort, Gr?oli?res les Neiges, is located in the Southern Alps at an altitude of 1400m to 1800m. Situated just 45km from Nice and Antibes, Gr?oli?res is only 20km from the coast, giving it a shorter season than other facilities deeper in the mountains. (Seven snow cannon are used to ensure a Christmas opening.) The resort offers 3 black runs, 15 red, 3 blue, and 9 green accessed by 16 lifts (1 chair and 13 surface.) Overall there are 400m of vertical descent and 30km of cross country ski trails. Gr?oli?res sits in a north-facing bowl, making for hard snow and deep shadows in the afternoon. Accommodations include a hotel at the bottom of the slopes and there are apartments to rent for longer stays.

?

Don?t limit your holiday plans on the Riviera to just the summer months. Remember that while the average daily temperature in Nice in August is 28 ?C, January rarely falls lower than 6 ?C, still perfectly acceptable for a bundled up walk along a Mediterranean beach or a comfortable soak in the hot tub back at the hotel after a day trip into the Alps for some time on the slopes!

?

Burger Davis SIR offer a host of luxury villas and apartments to rent throughout the Riviera, Cannes, St Tropez, Cap d?Antibes, St Jean Cap Ferrat and more.
